Apple showcased this unsigned UK singer at iPhone event
(Warning: There’s some excitement-induced explicit language below, which we think is fair enough:)
Most eyes were on the new iPhones announced by Apple at yesterday’s launch event (even if the facial recognition technology failed), but someone was more excited by another showcase.
Step forward, unsigned singer Emma Blackery:
Her EP was one those featured during Apple’s demonstration the new devices – and she happened to be tuning in at the time.
As can be seen from her tweets, Apple clearly hadn’t approached Blackery to tell her her upcoming fame, and the 25-year-old was pretty taken aback at her cameo.
And clearly a global spotlight has some benefits:
Although unsigned, Emma Blackery was far from unknown already – she has 1.6 million subscribers to her YouTube channel and has been independently releasing music for years already.
But fingers crossed she’ll be given a step up by the attention a feature at a global Apple event can get you.
Elsewhere at the launch, Apple billed its new iPhone X handset as “the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone”, setting the “path for technology” for the next decade.
On top that, the company unveiled its brilliantly terrifying Animoji (that’s animated emoji), which see an emoji your choice being mapped to your face so that it moves and expresses itself like you do when you send messages.
